Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trek sprinted from a breakaway to claim victory in the fourth stage of the Tour de France. The win marked a significant shift in the race, as Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates-XRG lost his position at the top of the general classification.

Pedersen crossed the finish line in 4 hours, 10 minutes, and 45 seconds, with Quinn Simmons of Lidl-Trek also awarded the same time for second place. Raul Garcia of Movistar finished third.

Following the stage, Torstein Traeen of Uno-X Mobility now leads the general classification with a total time of 13 hours, 2 minutes, and 36 seconds. Sean Quinn of Easypost is in second place, 28 seconds behind Traeen, and Mathias Vacek of Lidl-Trek is third, 3 minutes and 50 seconds adrift.

Tadej Pogacar has fallen to fourth place in the general classification, trailing the leader by 7 minutes and 53 seconds. Jonas Vingegaard of Visma-Lease a Bike is also in the same time bracket as Pogacar. The heat during the stage presented challenges for the riders.

The peloton had passed the medieval fortress of Cité de Carcassonne at the start of the stage. Pogacar was observed looking downwards, sporting a close-cropped blond hairstyle during the event.
