Luke Pettitte, son of New York Yankees pitching great Andy Pettitte, was selected by his father’s former team in the eighth round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday.

Pettitte, a two-way player for Dallas Baptist University, was named to the Second Team All-Central Region by the ABCA and earned First Team All-Conference USA honors during his 2026 season. He was also named Conference USA Hitter of the Week for the week of May 11. During the season, Pettitte hit .341 with 16 home runs and 48 runs batted in across 186 plate appearances. On the mound, he posted a 3.19 earned run average, striking out 56 batters in 48 innings pitched over the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

The 21-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery and was unable to pitch in 2026, but he was able to continue hitting.

Andy Pettitte, a three-time All-Star and five-time World Series champion, was a 22nd-round pick by the Yankees in 1990. He spent 15 of his 18 MLB seasons with New York. Andy Pettitte currently serves as a special advisor for the Yankees and also coached Luke and his other children in high school.
