The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly on the verge of being sold for a record-breaking $12.5 billion, according to reports. This development comes less than a year after Mark Walter initially purchased a majority stake in the NBA franchise.
Josh Kushner, brother of former President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former Disney CEO Bob Iger are the reported buyers of the controlling interest in the team. Walter had acquired his share, estimated at $10 billion, from the Buss family. That transaction received unanimous approval from the NBA Board of Governors in October 2025.
In a joint statement, Kushner and Iger expressed their honor at the prospect of leading the Lakers. "As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world," they stated. "We have immense respect for the leadership and vision of Jerry and Jeanie Buss. Our long-term commitment is to build on that foundation, compete at the highest level, and serve this extraordinary team, its fans, and the city of Los Angeles."
