Liverpool has completed the signing of 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Belgian club Genk for a deal potentially worth up to £30 million, including add-ons. Brughmans has agreed to a six-year contract and will stay at Genk on loan for the current season before moving to Anfield ahead of the 2027-28 campaign.
Brughmans, who stands at 6ft 7in, has been a starter in all four of Genk's matches this season and has represented Belgium at the youth international level. BBC Sport understands the deal includes an initial fee with follow-up payments, with the potential total reaching approximately £30 million.
The move is part of Liverpool's global talent acquisition strategy, led by Matt Newberry. This department has previously secured young players such as Senegalese center-backs Mor Talla N'diaye and Austrian Ifeanyi Ndukwe following their performances at the U17 World Cup in Qatar. Additionally, goalkeeper Armin Pecsi and midfielder Samuel Martinez joined the club within the last year from Hungary and Colombia, respectively, with Pecsi currently on loan at TSV Hartberg in Germany.
Liverpool's current goalkeeping options include Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman, and Vitezslav Jaros. However, with Alisson's contract set to expire next summer and Mamardashvili's future appearing uncertain, Brughmans is being positioned as a future option from the summer of 2027.
