Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was hospitalized overnight after suffering a serious neck injury during the team’s Week 8 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Campbell went down on the turf at Ford Field and was not moving after colliding with Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. He was placed on a backboard and carted off the field in the fourth quarter of the Lions' 19-15 victory.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell addressed the team in the locker room after the game, stating he had no new information on Campbell's status but led a prayer for the player. "So, here’s what I wanna do, man. We’re gonna take a knee," the coach said. "Now, I wanna pray for Jack and let’s keep him in our thoughts and prayers, man."
Dan Campbell also spoke to reporters, offering prayers to the player and his family. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his family," the Lions coach said. "He's being taken care of. We don't have any new information. We'll keep you updated as this goes, but we're thinking about him."
The team stated that Jack Campbell was "resting and will remain in a local hospital tonight, for continued evaluation and monitoring," and that further updates would be released as available.
Campbell, a first-round pick in 2023, was named a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro selection for the first time after the 2025 season. He recorded 176 tackles and five sacks last season. This season, he had played in all seven games, recovered one fumble, and tallied 57 tackles. He had played in every game since entering the NFL. He signed a four-year contract extension with the team last May.
The collision occurred as Campbell was helping tackle Hockenson.
