Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell led an emotional prayer for linebacker Jack Campbell in the locker room following the team's 19-15 victory over the previously undefeated Minnesota Vikings. Campbell was carted off the field and taken to the hospital in the fourth quarter with a scary-looking neck injury.
Players from both teams were visibly distraught as Campbell lay motionless on the field, reportedly without feeling in his extremities. Medical staff attended to him before he was transported via ambulance.
"I do not have any more information on Jack. We don’t know anything else at this point," Campbell told reporters after the game. "So here’s what I wanna do. We’re gonna take a knee. Now I wanna pray for Jack, and let’s keep him in our thoughts and prayers, man."
While the prayer itself was omitted from a video posted by the Lions' official social media, coach Campbell appeared emotional in its aftermath. Quarterback Jared Goff addressed the team in the locker room, acknowledging the difficult situation.
"I know that, tough with Jack. Stick together, lean on each other. Alright?" Goff said, before leading the team in a chant to end the discussion. "Win."
There has been no further update on Campbell's condition beyond him resting in a hospital bed Sunday night. The injury occurred as Campbell attempted to tackle Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson, resulting in a jarring impact to his neck and back. The Lions are likely to be without their starting middle linebacker as they await further news on his well-being.
