Leeds United are reportedly in discussions with Manchester City regarding the potential transfer of goalkeeper James Trafford. The England U21 international spent last season with City, making four Premier League appearances after returning from a loan spell at Burnley.

Trafford joined City's academy at a young age and progressed through the ranks, including loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers. He made 73 appearances for Burnley before Manchester City activated a buy-back clause last summer, reportedly for £27 million plus add-ons. His playing time at the Etihad was limited following the club's signing of Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma in September.

Leeds are in the market for a new goalkeeper, having seen Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier depart Elland Road this summer. While Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns remain at the club, Perri lost his starting position to Darlow in the latter half of the previous season. Trafford was part of England's squad for the recent World Cup but did not feature in any matches.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa had also expressed interest in Trafford earlier in the summer. However, Aston Villa are now understood to expect their current goalkeeper, Emi Martinez, to remain with the club.
