Charles Leclerc clinched Ferrari's second victory in three races at a dramatic British Grand Prix, which concluded under a safety car after a software error erroneously signaled the end of racing laps. Leclerc crossed the line ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton.
The race at Silverstone was marked by several significant incidents. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli suffered a wheel-fairing failure while contending for the lead, which ultimately saw him finish ninth before a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits dropped him to 16th. Red Bull's Max Verstappen crashed out of second place while chasing Hamilton.
The chaos promoted Russell to second place, as Mercedes opted not to pit him during the safety car period. The Mercedes driver's strong finish has narrowed Antonelli's championship lead to 25 points, with Hamilton a further seven points behind.
Leclerc expressed his happiness with the win, his first in nearly two years, though he noted the unusual ending. "Unfortunately the end was maybe not the one I will have dreamt of," he said.
Hamilton was investigated for a yellow-flag infringement but received a reprimand from stewards rather than a penalty. The race stewards stated that the "'safety car in this lap' message was displayed erroneously due to a software error."
This result significantly impacts the championship standings, with Antonelli and Verstappen failing to score substantial points. The race also saw notable pre-race activities, including a Lego kart race involving drivers and celebrities.
