FOX Sports analyst Landon Donovan lauded the performance of Spanish winger Lamine Yamal in Spain's 2-0 victory over France in the FIFA World Cup semifinal. Donovan noted that Yamal's presence on the ball instilled a significant sense of apprehension in the French defense throughout the match.

"Every time he gets the ball, there's this real fear in the French team, and his decision-making as to when to just pass quickly and then everybody relaxes, or he starts to go at you, and he mixed it up perfectly all night," Donovan stated following the game.

While Yamal did not score or record an assist, he played a crucial role in Spain's opening goal, drawing a penalty when he was fouled by France defender Lucas Digne. He also came close to scoring himself, but his shot was disallowed for a marginal offside call.

Donovan observed Yamal's physical and performance improvements over the course of the tournament, attributing some of his elevated play to his recovery from a pre-tournament hamstring injury. "He was fantastic. He drew the penalty. He hasn't been the goalscorer we've expected this tournament, but as he's gotten healthier throughout the tournament, he's gotten better and better," Donovan said.

The former U.S. men's national team star also pointed out the consistent offensive focus on Yamal's flank, noting that both of Spain's goals originated from that side of the field. "Both goals came down that side," Donovan remarked. "Plus the goal he scored that was a little bit offside. He was great. He was fantastic."

With this win, Spain has advanced to the World Cup final, where they will compete against the victor of the semifinal match between Argentina and England.
