Lando Norris has extended his contract with McLaren, committing his future to the Formula One team until at least 2030. The deal, reportedly worth up to £30 million (approximately $30 million USD) per year, solidifies his position as one of the sport's highest-paid drivers.
Norris announced the agreement on Saturday at McLaren's factory in Woking. He has been associated with McLaren since 2017, initially joining their junior program as a test and simulator driver. Since then, he has competed in 163 Grands Prix for the team, securing 13 wins, 18 pole positions, and 48 podium finishes, more than any other McLaren driver in history.
He will continue to partner with Oscar Piastri, the Australian driver who also signed a long-term agreement with McLaren last year. Norris expressed that the announcement is intended to boost team morale and provide comfort and motivation to the staff.
"It’s best for what will motivate them and make them more comfortable and give them a push," Norris stated. "So, it’s perfect timing from that perspective. I want them to know that there’s no other place I’d rather be than right here."
The new contract places Norris among the top earners in Formula One, alongside drivers such as Charles Leclerc at Ferrari and George Russell at Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari and Max Verstappen at Red Bull are understood to be the highest earners, with annual deals potentially exceeding £80 million, including bonuses.
Norris has previously indicated his long-term commitment to McLaren, stating his openness to concluding his career with the team. "I’d be very, very proud at the end of my career to say that has been the case," he said. "I’ve not been someone who’s jumped from team to team, or jumped to a potential opportunity to the next potential opportunity."
