Following the Los Angeles Lakers' comeback victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night, a lighthearted moment unfolded when forward Ziaire Williams mistook teammate Austin Reaves for Luka Dončić during a post-game interview.
Williams approached Reaves from behind during his interview with NBA on Prime, placing his hands on his shoulders and exclaiming, "Fifty ball." Reaves, who had scored 25 points in the Lakers' 124-118 win, responded with disbelief, "I’m the wrong white person." Williams later confirmed the mix-up, stating, "Deadass," with a smile.
Dončić, who scored 53 points in the game, also joined in on the jest, jokingly remarking, "That was very disrespectful to me."
The game saw the Lakers overcome a 16-point deficit to secure a significant win. Dončić's performance marked his 11th career 50-point game, tying Allan Iverson for 10th most in NBA history. He also surpassed Michael Jordan for the most points scored in the first nine games of a season since the NBA-ABA merger, with an average of 40.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 7.6 assists for the season. The Lakers currently hold the top spot in the Western Conference with an 8-2 record.
