The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a four-year, $60 million contract with free agent guard Quentin Grimes. Grimes, 26, joins the Lakers after spending the last 1.5 seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Grimes played briefly alongside Lakers star Luka Doncic during the 2024-25 season. He was traded from the Detroit Pistons to the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 offseason, and then later to the 76ers ahead of the 2025 trade deadline.
A 6-foot-4 guard out of Houston, Grimes was the No. 25 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. In his NBA career, he has averaged 11.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. During the 2025-26 season with the 76ers, Grimes posted averages of 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.
While Grimes shot a career-low 33.4% from three-point range in the most recent season, he has historically been a reliable perimeter shooter, making at least 37.5% of his three-pointers in his first four seasons. He has also demonstrated effectiveness on catch-and-shoot opportunities, converting at or above 38% in four of his five seasons, and is known as a dependable corner three-point shooter.
Defensively, Grimes possesses a 6-foot-8 wingspan and has shown the ability to be a strong perimeter defender, particularly off the ball, though he has experienced occasional lapses.
Grimes began his career with the New York Knicks before being traded to the Pistons prior to the 2024 trade deadline. He has not remained with a single team for more than 1.5 seasons since starting his professional career.
