Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick has sent rookie Cameron Carr and third-year guard Bronny James to the G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers, to gain more playing time. Redick stated that the decision was made because "you guys need reps, and you need to play."
Carr, the Lakers' No. 24 overall draft pick, began the season with an oblique injury and has since played limited minutes in three NBA games. James, whose contract was fully guaranteed in the offseason, has appeared in five games, totaling just 2.4 minutes.
Given their sparse playing time as bench players, the assignment to the Coachella Valley Lakers is intended to provide them with the game experience they have not received at the NBA level. The pair are scheduled to rejoin the Lakers for their upcoming three-game road trip to Detroit, Atlanta, and Milwaukee.
