Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber hit his MLB-leading 40th home run on Wednesday, a three-run shot that gave the Phillies a 6-0 lead over the Seattle Mariners in the second inning. The home run traveled approximately 425 feet.
With this latest blast, Schwarber tied a Phillies record for the most seasons with 40 or more home runs, matching former first baseman Ryan Howard. Schwarber, who hit 56 home runs last season, is also currently tied for the most 40-plus home run seasons among active players with Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.
Schwarber's 227 home runs since joining the Phillies are the second-most in a player's first five seasons with the club, trailing only Babe Ruth's 235 homers with the New York Yankees. Schwarber has 380 career home runs across his time with the Phillies and the Chicago Cubs, where he played for six years.
Among active MLB players, Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves and Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros are currently second to Schwarber in home runs this season with 36 each.
