The New York Knicks organization has publicly defended pop star Taylor Swift's allegiance to the team after guard Tyler Kolek described her courtside presence as "very performative" during a recent livestream.

A spokesperson for the Knicks stated that Swift has been a fan for many years and has a "long history with Madison Square Garden," expressing appreciation for her support. The statement came after Kolek, during a livestream with teammate Deuce McBride, was asked to name the "the fakest" celebrity fan at Knicks games. Kolek pointed to Swift, suggesting her appearances were not necessarily indicative of genuine fandom and that she might not have attended other games.

McBride reportedly warned Kolek about potential backlash from Swift's fanbase.

Swift's attendance at Madison Square Garden has been noted, including an appearance during the 2026 NBA Finals. Her presence at games has often drawn significant media attention. The Knicks organization appears keen to maintain a positive relationship with the globally recognized artist.

Kolek, in his third season with the Knicks, was part of the team's 2026 championship roster. His history with Madison Square Garden includes leading Marquette to a Big East championship there in 2023. Swift's documented appearances at MSG prior to the 2026 Finals include a 2003 halftime show and a 2014 game attended with Carmelo Anthony. The arena also featured a "Just Married" display following her marriage to Travis Kelce in July.
