Keely Hodgkinson has withdrawn from the women's 800 meters at the upcoming Diamond League meeting in Zurich, stating her body is "not quite ready" to compete.

The Olympic gold medalist was scheduled to face Audrey Werro of Switzerland, who recently defeated Hodgkinson for the European Championships title.

"Unfortunately the body isn't quite ready to race again after the European Championships," Hodgkinson said in a statement. "We've made the decision to skip this race and get ready for the next one. Sad to miss it, hopefully see you next year!"

The Zurich race will now feature world 400m hurdles champion Femke Broeders-Bol, who has been competing in the 800m this season, alongside Hodgkinson's training partner Georgia Hunter-Bell, the Commonwealth Games 800m champion.

World 800m champion Lilian Odira of Kenya has also pulled out of the Zurich event due to illness and weakness experienced since the Commonwealth Games.

Hodgkinson has had a history of hamstring and knee injuries, leading her to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games to focus on the European Championships amidst a demanding summer schedule. Earlier this month, she expressed her desire to compete against top athletes, believing it brings out her best performance.

Prior to her victory at the London Diamond League on July 18, Hodgkinson had indicated an improvement in her physical condition.

The Zurich meeting is the second-to-last event of the Diamond League season, with the final scheduled for Brussels on September 4 and 5.
