Juventus defender Federico Gatti is at risk of missing the start of the Serie A season after sustaining an ankle injury during a pre-season match.
The incident occurred during an annual fixture at the Allianz Stadium where the first team plays against the Juventus NextGen side. Traditionally, fans invade the pitch in the later stages of this family-friendly event.
However, the pitch invasion began earlier than usual this year. One fan jumped over barriers and ran onto the field, with hundreds of others following. Footage showed this fan sliding two-footed into Gatti, who was unaware of the approaching supporter.
While Gatti did not suffer a serious injury, he was forced to miss Juventus' latest training session on Thursday due to an ankle issue. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, there is a possibility the defender could miss the team's opening Serie A match against Frosinone on Sunday.
In addition to the player's injury, the club has reported approximately £43,000 in damage to the Allianz Stadium caused during the event, which requires repair before the season's first home game. Juventus is reportedly reconsidering the format of this annual friendly in light of the incident.
