Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco discovered his family’s allegiance to his real-life performance didn't extend to their fantasy football rosters. In a clip from the third season of the Netflix docuseries “Quarterback,” Flacco’s son, Frank, revealed he had benched his father for their Week 2 fantasy matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
During the game, which took place in Baltimore, Flacco’s family was shown discussing their fantasy team lineups. “If dad goes off, I’m gonna crash out,” Frank Flacco stated from the stands. When his mother, Dana Flacco, inquired why, Frank admitted, “I benched him.” Dana Flacco confirmed she had also benched her husband on her own fantasy team, expressing a hope that he would nonetheless perform well.
In the actual game, Flacco threw for 199 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, along with a lost fumble, in a 41-17 loss to the Ravens. This performance would have yielded approximately 7.96 points in a standard fantasy league, suggesting Frank and Dana Flacco made the correct strategic decision for their fantasy teams.
The docuseries, which released all eight episodes of its third season recently, has offered fans a glimpse into the personal lives of several NFL quarterbacks. Flacco, who signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Bengals for the current season, also shared his thoughts on quarterback visors in another segment. He humorously dismissed them as a superficial trend, suggesting they are worn for aesthetics rather than function and that he would only consider wearing one if the team secured a win.
