New York Jets running back Chip Trayanum was carted off the field and taken to a local hospital with a neck injury during the team's preseason game against the New York Giants on Friday night.
The team announced that Trayanum was awake, alert, and moving his extremities following the incident. The injury occurred on the final play of the first half when Trayanum, an undrafted rookie, was run over after receiving a handoff.
Momentarily after the play, Trayanum remained on the turf for several minutes. Teammates gathered around him as medical staff appeared to apply a neck brace before he was immobilized on a cart and taken from the field.
Prior to the injury, Trayanum had been a notable performer in the preseason. He recorded 12 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown, in addition to two receptions for 25 yards. The Jets have Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis, and Kene Nwangwu listed as primary running backs, with Trayanum a candidate for the practice squad.
