New York Jets kicker Jason Sanders was widely criticized by NFL fans and pundits after a spectacular miss during the team's season-opening game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the second quarter with the Jets leading 10-3. Facing a fourth-and-8 situation, Sanders' 30-year-old kicker sent the ball wide left of the goalposts by a significant margin. Replays confirmed no block or deflection, attributing the miss solely to the kicker.

Footage of the errant kick quickly circulated on social media, with many users labeling it the "worst kick in NFL history." One user on X, formerly Twitter, expressed disbelief, stating, "That kick missed so badly I felt personally invited to keep the clip on loop."

Despite the embarrassing moment, the miss did not ultimately cost the Jets. The team went on to win the game 23-10. Sanders later redeemed himself by successfully converting two field goals from over 50 yards out, helping to secure the victory.

The win spoiled the debut of Titans head coach Robert Saleh, who previously coached for the Jets. The Jets' offense was led by running back Breece Hall, who gained 102 rushing yards and scored a touchdown. Quarterback Geno Smith completed 19 of 24 passes for 215 yards.

The New York Jets will host the Green Bay Packers in their home opener next Sunday for Week 2, while the Tennessee Titans will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Nashville.
