The New York Jets defense had a strong showing against the offense during Monday's training camp practice, forcing turnovers and stifling drives. The defense asserted its dominance throughout the session, despite a highlight-reel catch by rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.
Cooper Jr. provided one of the day's few offensive sparks with an over-the-shoulder reception along the sideline during 7-on-7 drills. The pass from quarterback Geno Smith was slightly behind him, but Cooper Jr. made an impressive adjustment to secure the ball. However, receivers struggled with ball security in the rainy conditions, with Garrett Wilson among those who dropped passes.
The defense's performance included an interception by Minkah Fitzpatrick, who picked off a Geno Smith pass that was overthrown over the middle. This marked Smith's first interception of training camp. Safety Dane Belton was also active, frequently penetrating the backfield.
In injury news, defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat (hamstring), defensive end Joseph Ossai (undisclosed), and cornerback D’Angelo Ponds (calf) are all considered week-to-week. Tight end Kenyon Sadiq was given the day off due to a hernia issue.
