Jets edge rusher David Bailey is set to return from a groin injury, providing a much-needed reinforcement for the team's defense as they prepare to face quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Bailey had missed the Jets' recent loss to the Raiders.

The Jets' defense has struggled in Bailey's absence, allowing at least 26 points in each of their three consecutive losses. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has expressed a desire for improvement, particularly in avoiding costly third-down penalties.

Bailey is expected to help bolster the Jets' run defense, an area where Glenn noted the rookie has shown significant improvement. His presence is also anticipated to aid in pass coverage, though containing Mahomes, known for his mobility and playmaking ability, presents a significant challenge. "We just have to understand that with Mahomes, he’s gonna fake a throw, he’s gonna move around," Glenn said. "We’ve got to make sure we squeeze the pocket and make sure we don’t let him out of the pocket in situations like that."

Bailey, who was a full participant in Friday's practice, stated he is "feeling good" after sitting out the Raiders game. He acknowledged the challenge of facing Mahomes, who, like Bailey, played collegiately at Texas Tech. "He’s definitely a big name in the league," Bailey said. "Just sticking to the game plan [and] sticking to our responsibilities" will be key to containing him.

Separately, the Jets continue to face challenges with turnovers. The team has recorded only one interception this season, a team-low in the NFL. Despite this, the Jets have been effective in forcing fumbles, recovering seven, which is second only to the Raiders. "That’s one area we have to improve on, is interceptions," Glenn admitted. "It’s something we talk about a lot."

On the offensive side, the Jets have struggled in the red zone, converting only 42.3 percent of their opportunities into touchdowns. Last week, they went 2-for-6 in the red zone against the Raiders. Offensive coordinator Frank Reich emphasized the need for improvement, stating, "It’s not enough and we have to be better. ... No matter what, we’re in it together, and collectively as a group, we just have to do better in the red zone."

Cornerback Nahshon Wright was also added to the injury report as questionable with a back injury. Wright has not yet played a defensive snap this season after signing with the team in free agency.
