Jermain Defoe, the former Premier League striker, is being considered for a coaching role as a potential assistant manager at Bromley, Daily Mail Sport understands. The potential move comes four months after Defoe's abrupt departure from his role as manager at Woking. He is reportedly being considered to join former Salford City manager Karl Robinson if Robinson is appointed to the vacant Bromley managerial position.
Defoe left Woking after less than four months in charge, following a reported breakdown in his relationship with the club's director of football. His departure was described as dramatic, with Defoe failing to attend training before informing the club he would not return.
Robinson previously attempted to sign Defoe as a player when he was manager of Oxford United, after Defoe's exit from Rangers. Defoe enjoyed a prolific career, scoring 163 goals in 496 Premier League appearances for six clubs and is Tottenham's seventh-highest all-time goalscorer.
Bromley is currently searching for a new manager after dismissing Andy Woodman last month. The club has also reportedly held talks with former Chelsea player Ashley Cole and ex-Oxford United boss Matt Bloomfield. Byron Webster is currently serving as interim manager.
The Ravens are currently at the bottom of League One and have not secured a win in their last six matches. Woodman was sacked after five years, during which he led the club from the National League to League One. He expressed disappointment about his dismissal, stating he felt "misled in numerous ways and situations" after dedicating five and a half years to the club.
Separately, former Everton striker Victor Anichebe is reportedly in the final stages of a takeover of Bromley and is understood to be involved in the search for a new manager.
