The Philadelphia 76ers have significantly improved their championship odds following a blockbuster trade that sent All-Star guard Jaylen Brown to the team. The move, which occurred late Wednesday evening, pairs Brown with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, reshaping the Eastern Conference landscape.
Before the trade, Philadelphia's odds of winning the NBA championship stood at 55/1. Post-trade, these odds have been cut to 22/1 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Their chances of winning the Eastern Conference also saw a dramatic shift, falling from 20/1 to +850, placing them ahead of the Detroit Pistons (+850) and Miami Heat (+900). The team's odds for winning the Atlantic Division improved from 22/1 to +500.
The trade marks the end of Brown's tenure with the Boston Celtics, where he formed a partnership with Jayson Tatum. In exchange for Brown, the Celtics acquired veteran forward Paul George and a collection of future draft picks, including first-round selections in 2028 and 2031, and second-round picks in 2028 and 2030. This deal comes after a period of speculation surrounding Brown's future, with rumors linking him to potential trades during the NBA Draft, particularly in discussions involving Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Brown is coming off a career-best season, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, often serving as Boston's primary offensive option while Tatum dealt with an Achilles injury. Philadelphia, which was swept by the New York Knicks in the second round of the previous playoffs, had identified a need for depth at the wing position.
In addition to acquiring Brown, the 76ers also signed forward Dean Wade to a four-year, $39 million contract. These moves indicate a strategic effort by Philadelphia to strengthen its roster and compete for an NBA title against top teams in the Eastern Conference.
