New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson continued his high-profile weekend by attending the men's singles final at the US Open on Sunday. He was accompanied by his wife, Ali Marks, and teammates Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart.
The group showed their support for American player Ben Shelton, with Hart posting on social media, "We all Ben Shelton fans today." Despite the encouragement, Shelton was defeated by Alexander Zverev with a final score of 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2.
This appearance followed a notable Saturday evening for Brunson, who was unexpectedly recognized by singer Harry Styles during a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden. Styles paused his performance to point out Brunson in the audience, calling him "the King of New York."
The crowd responded with enthusiastic cheers, to which Brunson reacted with a smile and a salute.
Also in attendance at the US Open final was soccer player Trinity Rodman, who had a personal stake in the match as her boyfriend, Ben Shelton, was competing. Rodman, who plays for the NWSL's Washington Spirit, had to leave her own team's match early to attend the final. She was visibly emotional after Shelton's loss, wearing a Ben Shelton t-shirt. Zverev acknowledged Rodman during his on-court interview, playfully questioning her absence from her own game.
Shelton was aiming for his first Grand Slam title and to end America's 23-year drought in men's singles at the US Open, but was ultimately bested by the top-seeded Zverev.
