The New York Islanders announced Friday they have re-upped defenseman Tony DeAngelo to a two-year contract extension, reportedly worth $4.5 million per season.

DeAngelo, 30, tallied 35 points, including five goals and 30 assists, in a career-high 76 games with the Islanders last season. This marked his second year with the club and his 10th in the league. He finished third on the team in assists and second among Islanders defensemen in goals, power-play points, and shots on goal.

The new deal represents a significant raise for DeAngelo, who was signed to a one-year contract last offseason. At that time, his signing was met with skepticism due to past controversies, including a physical altercation with a teammate during his tenure with the New York Rangers in 2021, which led to his contract being bought out. However, he has since been described as a model player for the Islanders, with his performance now being rewarded by the team.
