Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Josh Hoover sustained a significant injury during the second quarter of the team's game against North Texas on Sept. 5, 2026, but remained in the game and subsequently threw a touchdown pass.

North Texas defensive lineman Udoka Ezeani was flagged for a blatant facemask penalty that spun Hoover's facemask completely around, causing him to bleed profusely. Despite the injury, Hoover stayed on the field.

On the drive following the penalty, Hoover, with blood visible on his uniform, completed a nine-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Charlie Becker. This score extended Indiana's lead over North Texas.

Hoover, a transfer from TCU, is filling the role previously held by Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza. The Hoosiers are also coming off a National Championship season in 2025.
