University of Evansville sophomore Jordan Scott died Sunday night when her car crashed into a utility pole on State Road 62 in Warrick County, Indiana, according to the Warrick County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred around 12:42 a.m. as Scott was driving on roads described as "very curvy" and unfamiliar to her, WRTV reported.

Officials told the outlet that a witness observed Scott's vehicle leaving the road on a sharp curve, striking a pole, and coming to rest on its side within a tree line. The vehicle sustained severe damage, and Scott, the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police suspect speed was a factor in the crash, and her car may have gone airborne before impact.

Scott had recently transferred to the University of Evansville to play alongside her younger sister, Jayden, who is a freshman on the Purple Aces women's basketball team. The university confirmed Scott's death on Monday, describing her as a "beloved member of the University of Evansville community" whose loss is deeply felt by teammates, coaches, and classmates.

"Our thoughts are with her parents Mario and Amy, sister and teammate Jayden as well as her family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time," UE Athletics posted on Facebook. The university is providing counseling and grief support services to students and staff.

Scott, a native of Newburgh, Indiana, and a graduate of Castle High School, previously played at Wabash Valley College. Her former team remembered her as "an incredible talent on the court and an even more remarkable person off it," adding that she "brought so much joy and passion to our team."

During her athletic career, Scott was recognized as a two-time All-SIAC first-team selection, a two-time All-State Honorable Mention pick, and a first-team All-Metro selection. She also competed in club basketball before her college career.
