India extended their control over the one-off Test match against England at Lord's on day two, leaving the home side facing a significant deficit. India finished the day at 154-1, adding to their first-innings total of 285, for an imposing overall lead of 269 runs.
England were dismissed for 170 in their first innings, a score that gave India a lead of 115 runs. The English batting order struggled against disciplined bowling, particularly from Kranti Gaud, who became the first woman to be listed on the Lord's Test honours board with her spell of 5-37. Gaud took key wickets, including England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, who top-scored for her team with 44.
Amy Jones offered some resistance with a half-century, but her dismissal for 52 was the start of a collapse that saw the last six wickets fall for just 39 runs. This collapse followed an 84-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Jones and Sciver-Brunt.
In their second innings, India's openers put on an 88-run stand. Smriti Mandhana, who scored 83 in the first innings, reached another half-century and remained unbeaten on 69. Shafali Verma contributed 33 before being dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone, who was England's most successful bowler with three wickets in the first innings.
With favorable weather expected for the remaining two days, India is in a strong position to dictate terms and bat England further out of the match. England's bowlers found little reward on a flat pitch throughout the day.
