Carolina Hurricanes star Seth Jarvis is expected to be sidelined for at least the beginning of the upcoming season following shoulder surgery, according to general manager Eric Tulsky. The procedure is estimated to keep the forward out of play for approximately four to six months.

"Hopefully on the shorter end of that, but that's the range we were given," Tulsky said, as reported by NHL.com. Jarvis had been managing issues with the same shoulder throughout the 2023-24 season, playing in 81 games despite the injury.

"Shoulders are tough," Tulsky explained. "Once it goes, you can keep aggravating it and it can limit what you do, and it's tough, and eventually it needs to be repaired. You can strengthen it and try to get through it, and he did that for a while."

Jarvis, who was the Hurricanes' leading goal scorer, likely would have undergone surgery last summer if the team had not advanced deep into the playoffs. However, he opted to postpone the procedure to avoid missing significant playing time.

"Then we got to this year and had another deep run, and at some point, you just need to do it," Tulsky continued. "You can't be limited for the rest of your career. You start thinking maybe we're going to have deep runs every year and are just going to have to bite the bullet and get it done."

Jarvis was selected 13th overall by the Hurricanes in the 2020 NHL Draft. He recorded 66 points, including 32 goals and 34 assists, during the most recent season, marking his third consecutive year achieving those statistical milestones. In the Hurricanes' recent Stanley Cup run, Jarvis contributed 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 19 games, including assists and a goal in the Final series against the Golden Knights.
