Hull City is close to signing former Newcastle United left-back Matt Targett on a free transfer, according to reports. The 30-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, is expected to undergo a medical before signing a two-year contract.
Targett is slated to join manager Sergej Jakirovic's squad for their pre-season training camp in Slovenia, which is scheduled to begin on Monday. Hull also remains on track to secure the transfer of Swedish left-back Elliot Stroud from Mjallby for a fee of approximately £3 million.
Targett had attracted interest from other clubs, including West Ham and Norwich City, but Hull appears to have secured his signature ahead of the transfer window's closure on September 1. The transfer window is a key period for clubs aiming to make significant signings before the upcoming season.
