A high school soccer match in South Dakota was marred by a violent incident when a player attacked an opponent, sparking outrage online and calls for a lifetime ban. The assault occurred shortly before halftime during a game between Brookings High School and Rapid City Central.

During a challenge for the ball down the left side, Brookings player Kyler Soost and Rapid City Central's Jaxson Bergman collided. Bergman, who appeared to have been fouled, then shoved Soost to the ground. The situation escalated when Bergman continued his attack, running over to Soost and kicking him in the back of the head as he lay on the turf. Bergman then proceeded to punch Soost five times in the head.

Referees and coaches immediately intervened to stop the assault. A teammate of Soost's, Caylon Peters, also entered the fray, confronting Bergman. Bergman was subsequently escorted off the field and did not return to the game.

Footage of the incident quickly circulated on social media, drawing widespread condemnation. Viewers expressed shock and anger, with many demanding that Bergman be permanently banned from playing soccer. Comments included sentiments such as "Kicked him on the back of the head... Genuinely ban that kid from playing" and "That is disgusting doing that, I agree, hope that is a lifetime ban."
