Caizel Jesus-Kapesi, a sophomore quarterback at Aiea High School in Hawaii, has gained significant online attention for his performance on the field and his distinctive nickname, "Fatboy." The 6-foot-1, 268-pound player has led his team to a 2-0 record to begin the 2026 season.
Jesus-Kapesi's nickname originated from his birth weight of 10 pounds. He has embraced the moniker, stating that it has always been his nickname and everyone knows him by it. He has also worked on his physique, losing body fat and adding muscle in preparation for his sophomore season, describing himself as "more solid."
His family plays a significant role in his athletic career, with his father, TeeJay, coaching the junior varsity program and his older sister, Calize, having competed for the girls' volleyball team. Jesus-Kapesi credits his family for being both his biggest supporters and his toughest critics, helping to keep him motivated and grounded.
As a freshman, Jesus-Kapesi was instrumental in helping his team reach the OIA Division I playoffs. In 2025, he recorded a state-leading 3,264 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. He also guided Aiea High School to the OIA Division I championship game, where he threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns in a narrow 21-19 loss.
Jesus-Kapesi was unexpectedly thrust into the starting varsity quarterback role as a freshman when the projected starter transferred. Offensive coordinator Keola Willing noted that Jesus-Kapesi had to quickly learn to read defenses. "Last year was super good. He caught on, asked questions when he needed to and he just kind of clicked. The offense clicked," Willing said.
Willing also highlighted Jesus-Kapesi's ongoing work to become more vocal on the field, a key aspect of leadership for a young player. Head coach Mika Liʻiliʻi praised Jesus-Kapesi for his coachable attitude and team-first mentality, emphasizing that he is a player who wants to learn and trust the system.
