Hibernian advanced to the Conference League play-off round following a resilient 0-0 draw against Shkendija in Skopje, securing a 2-1 aggregate win. The Scottish club will now face Belgian side Gent for a place in the group stages.
The goalless second leg, played under challenging heat conditions in the Todor Proeski National Arena, saw Hibernian defend their first-leg advantage, which came courtesy of Warren O’Hora’s late winner at Easter Road. Shkendija, who reached the Conference League knockout play-off round last season, were unable to find a breakthrough.
Hibs manager David Gray praised his team's resolve, stating, "Don’t underestimate how big an achievement that is against a really good side. It wasn’t a brilliant game, but bodies on the line and our players stepped up. We found a way to get through and I’m delighted for the players — they thoroughly deserve it."
Gray highlighted the team's strong start to the season and the depth of the squad, noting the contributions from players coming off the bench. He emphasized the importance of recovery for the players after their European success.
In the match itself, clear-cut opportunities were limited. Shkendija’s Almir Kryeziu had an early shot wide, while Hibernian’s Callum Wright narrowly missed connecting with a corner. The first half concluded without a breakthrough.
The second half saw increased pressure from the hosts, with Fahd Ndzengue testing the Hibs defense. Hibernian had a significant chance when Nathan Lowe blazed a shot over the bar after being set up by Owen Elding. Goalkeeper Ferat Ramani was also called into action, bravely saving at the feet of Elding.
Despite late pressure from Shkendija, Hibernian's defense held firm to close out the tie and secure their progression. The club's supporters who had travelled to North Macedonia celebrated the achievement with the players.
Gray made four changes to the starting lineup from their recent Premiership victory against Rangers. Owen Elding, Nathan Lowe, Felix Passlack, and Callum Wright came into the team, replacing Ante Suto, Thibault Klidje, Josh Campbell, and Kanayo Megwa.
