Erling Haaland has showcased a lighter side in a new advertisement featuring his father, Alf-Inge, as Norway prepares for its World Cup quarter-final against England. The striker is featured in a Budweiser promotional campaign.
The advert, created for Budweiser and Perfect Draft, begins with a close-up of a denim shirt before focusing on Haaland. His father narrates, describing a "machine that always delivers. Precise, reliable, making people celebrate, especially after a goal or two. It's just perfect." Haaland, laughing, responds, "Thanks dad," only for his father to clarify he was referring to a pint of Budweiser.
Haaland, playing in his first World Cup, has had a notable tournament. Norway secured their first-ever knockout match victory at a major tournament by defeating Ivory Coast and Brazil en route to the quarter-finals. Haaland scored twice in the 2-1 victory against Brazil, knocking out Neymar Jr and other Brazilian stars. He described the win as "the biggest night in Norwegian football history" and expressed disbelief at playing and defeating Brazil.
Despite the team's success, the Norwegian squad has reportedly been affected by illness. Reports indicate that extensive travel across North America for matches has taken a toll. Jorgen Strand Larsen missed an early game due to illness, and Marcus Holmgren Pedersen was absent for the match against Brazil with a bug. Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland confirmed the team has experienced issues, with the team doctor reportedly very busy.
Norway is set to face an in-form England team. England is coming off a 3-2 victory against Mexico. However, the English team has some injury concerns. Reece James has returned to training after missing previous games. Jarell Quansah is suspended for two matches following a red card, and Tino Livramento was sent home before the tournament due to a calf injury. Declan Rice is managing hamstring and back pain, and Marc Guehi is experiencing muscle fatigue.
