Rashid Ali Khan, owner of the newly formed Glasgow Cosmic cricket franchise, has declared an ambitious vision to discover the next Virat Kohli or Jimmy Anderson from Glasgow. Khan, who recently visited the city for the first time, aims to build a strong fanbase and unearth local talent for the upcoming European T20 Premier League (ETPL), despite the team not having a home ground in its inaugural season.

Khan, CEO of India-based Mugafi Sports, which owns the Glasgow Cosmic, believes the ETPL will be a success, citing confidence in the league's management. "I love the team running the ETPL," Khan stated. "I’ve known them for decades. So, I’m 100-per-cent confident that we will be bowling the first ball on August 26."

The Glasgow Cosmic roster features international T20 specialists such as Finn Allen (New Zealand), Liam Livingstone (England), and Lungi Ngidi (South Africa), alongside Scottish players George Munsey and Richie Berrington. The team will be coached by Australian duo Matthew Hayden and Matthew Mott. However, matches for the first season will be hosted in Ireland and the Netherlands.

To foster a connection with the city, the franchise plans to hold its pre-season training in Glasgow and will fly community members to Dublin to attend matches. Khan emphasized the responsibility of representing Glasgow on a global scale through the league's broadcast. "There are six franchises and I had an option to choose others. But somehow Glasgow got stuck in our heads because I feel the passion of this city," he said.

Beyond assembling a competitive squad, Khan's long-term agenda includes developing grassroots cricket in Glasgow. The franchise intends to identify and nurture young talent, aged 13 to 15. Khan hopes that within 18 months, the entire city will be aware of the Glasgow Cosmic. "My long-term vision is not just to play T20 cricket here. I want to play Test matches here in Glasgow. Of course, all of that is going to take a lot of time. But we are patient enough. We are here to stay," he affirmed.
