The San Francisco Giants have suspended the salary of outfielder Harrison Bader following a late-night scooter accident that has further delayed his recovery from plantar fasciitis. Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey announced the decision Friday, stating that the team is withholding payments until Bader can resume playing.
Bader, who signed a two-year, $20.5 million contract with the Giants this past offseason, will miss the remainder of the current season due to the injury. He had already been on the injured list since May 29 with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The accident ensured he would not be able to return to the field in 2026.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday when Bader's scooter collided with the back of a San Francisco Fire Department truck. The wheel of the truck reportedly rolled over Bader's foot.
This is not Bader's first scooter-related incident. While playing in Florida in 2014, he crashed a scooter while intoxicated and received a 19-game suspension.
Bader, known for his defense in center field, is in his 10th major league season. He previously played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, and Philadelphia Phillies before joining the Giants. He is a Gold Glove winner with a career .244 batting average, 93 home runs, and 336 RBIs. In 39 games with the Giants this season, Bader hit .170 with five home runs.
