New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. left the field and headed to the locker room with a potential injury during the second quarter of the team's preseason finale against the New York Jets on Friday night. Tracy went down after an eight-yard gain with 7:22 remaining in the second quarter and stayed on the ground for several minutes.
He was eventually helped to his feet and walked off the field under his own power, but not steadily, before being escorted into the locker room by Ronnie Barnes, the Giants’ senior vice president of medical services. Tracy had four rushing attempts for 37 yards in the game, including a 16-yard run and a six-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
The injury adds to a challenging preseason for Tracy, a third-year running back. He missed a blitz pickup in the preseason opener that resulted in quarterback Jaxson Dart being hit, and fumbled the ball in the second preseason game against the Dolphins.
Tracy entered training camp as the projected No. 2 running back behind Cam Skattebo. However, the Giants' running back situation shifted on Aug. 18 with the signing of Najee Harris, a veteran who has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his four NFL seasons. Harris, who previously played for the Steelers and tore his Achilles in Week 4 last season with the Chargers, was on the sideline with other offensive starters, as was veteran running back Devin Singletary, during the preseason finale.
