San Francisco Giants outfielder Harrison Bader sustained further injury to his foot in a scooter accident that occurred late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, the team announced. The incident adds another setback for Bader, who has been limited to 30 games this season due to plantar fasciitis, a condition he has experienced for the second time in his MLB career.
Bader is scheduled to undergo an MRI to assess the extent of the new injury. His current performance has been impacted, as he is batting .170 with a .198 on-base percentage and a .358 slugging percentage. He is in the first year of a two-year contract with the Giants, valued at over $20 million.
This is not the first time Bader has been involved in a scooter-related incident. During his time playing for the University of Florida in 2014, he was suspended for 19 games after crashing a scooter into a parked truck while intoxicated.
Bader, a 2021 Gold Glove Award winner, has played for seven teams during his Major League Baseball career. He spent nearly six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals before being traded to the New York Yankees in 2022. He also had brief stints with the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, and Philadelphia Phillies before joining the Giants.
The San Francisco Giants currently hold one of the worst records in the National League and are expected to be active in trading players before the upcoming deadline.
