New York Giants cornerback Greg Newsome II views the upcoming season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13 as a prime opportunity to prove his assertion that the Giants possess the NFL's top cornerback unit.

The challenge comes in the form of the Cowboys' receiving tandem of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, who combined for over 2,500 receiving yards. Newsome II expressed enthusiasm for the matchup, stating, “A cornerback’s dream is to go against the best. If you want to be the best — and that’s what we want to be this season — why not showcase it Week 1? I’m super excited for the challenge and my guys will be ready.”

Newsome II, who secured a one-year, $8 million free-agent contract, has established himself as the team's No. 1 cornerback following training camp. The cornerback room also features former first-round pick Deonte Banks and veteran free-agent acquisition Paulson Adebo, who is the team's highest-paid cornerback with a $24.1 million salary-cap charge. Dru Phillips is set to play in the slot position, a role CeeDee Lamb occupied for a third of his snaps last season. Rookie second-round selection Colton Hood is also vying for playing time.
