New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo unsuccessfully attempted a backflip at Fanatics Fest on Saturday, a move that has drawn concern given he is nine months removed from a severe ankle injury. Skattebo, who suffered a dislocated ankle and tibia fracture in Week 8 of his rookie season, appeared on the WWE stage where attendees could recreate wrestler entrances. He chose Triple H’s entrance, complete with “The Game” music, but deviated from the script by attempting a backflip.

Skattebo landed awkwardly and fell to the ground, eliciting worried reactions from onlookers and likely the Giants' fanbase. He quickly stood up and appeared to celebrate in an effort to downplay the botched landing.

The backflip is a known energetic display for Skattebo, who has been described as vocal and energetic in the locker room. However, the timing of the stunt, with the upcoming NFL season and his ongoing recovery, has led to criticism.

"If I’m John Harbaugh and the Giants, I fine Skattebo. So season-risking reckless," wrote commentator Skip Bayless on X.

Despite the injury, Skattebo has maintained a confident outlook on his return. In June, he stated he would not alter his playing style. "It ain’t gonna change who I am," Skattebo said. "I had an injury, you know, it is what it is. I’ve still got plenty of football left, plenty of life left, I’m not going to let this little ankle thing bother me."

He added, "I’m going to get back [to] running people over like you see on the videos. It’s going to be normal Cam Skattebo from here on out."

Skattebo, a fourth-round pick from Arizona State, made an immediate impact as a rookie with his aggressive running style. In his abbreviated season, he recorded 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns, along with 207 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
