The New York Giants have signed veteran running back Najee Harris, adding a four-time 1,000-yard rusher to their already competitive backfield. Harris, who was released by the Chargers after suffering a torn Achilles in Week 3 of the 2025 season, worked out for the Giants on Monday.
The signing brings Harris, 28, into a running back room that includes Devin Singletary, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Cam Skattebo. Singletary joined the Giants this offseason after Saquon Barkley's departure, while Tracy is coming off two consecutive seasons with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage. Skattebo is returning from a broken tibia sustained last season.
While the Giants had previously shown interest in other running backs, including Kenneth Walker and Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love, Harris represents a significant addition. His history with head coach John Harbaugh, who noted Harris's rivalry with his brother Jim Harbaugh's team, adds an interesting dynamic.
"He’s a decorated vet," Harbaugh said of Harris. "And with those guys, generally, you just have to kind of see where they’re at when you get them." Harbaugh also acknowledged that Harris is not yet at 100 percent and is not in full football shape, but the team was willing to make the move despite his injury status. The signing may also be seen as a response to losing fourth-string running back Dante Miller to a season-ending groin injury.
