The New York Jets have announced their six captains for the 2026 season, with quarterback Geno Smith and veteran linebacker Demario Davis among those selected by their teammates. Rounding out the captaincy are guard Joe Tippmann, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, and wide receiver/punt returner Isaiah Williams.

Notably absent from this year's selections are the players who served as captains in 2025: wide receiver Garrett Wilson, linebacker Jamien Sherwood, and special teams player Marcelino McCrary-Ball. The omission of Wilson, considered one of the team's best players, and Breece Hall, also seen as a top talent, has drawn surprise.

Smith and Davis are new to the Jets this season, acquired in part for their established leadership qualities. Davis, in particular, brings extensive experience, having been an eight-time captain with the New Orleans Saints. He is viewed as a key figure in the team's efforts to improve. This marks Davis's third tenure with the franchise that originally drafted him in 2012.
