Legendary horse racing jockey Frankie Dettori has been hospitalized in England after a car crash Wednesday night that left him with broken ribs and a broken thumb, his agency H Talent Management confirmed.

Another vehicle collided with the rear passenger side of the car Dettori, 55, was driving in Newmarket. The impact caused Dettori's vehicle to spin and flip, according to a statement from his agency. Police have not made any arrests in connection with the incident.

Dettori was taken to a hospital where medical professionals are continuing to assess his injuries. "His focus is now on resting and recovering," H Talent Management stated. The agency also conveyed Dettori's thanks to the emergency services and medical staff.

The Italian jockey retired in February after a decorated career that included numerous wins in England and France, as well as victories in the U.S. Breeders' Cup races. He had been scheduled to make a return to racing in September.

This is not the first serious accident Dettori has experienced. In 2000, he and another jockey survived a plane crash in England where the pilot died. Dettori suffered a broken ankle in that incident.
