France has been unsuccessful in its appeal to have forward Michael Olise's yellow card from the match against Paraguay overturned. The booking, issued during a contentious last-16 fixture, will stand.

Olise received the caution in stoppage time for a shirt pull on Paraguay's Matias Galarza, who fell to the ground. The French Football Federation notified FIFA of their appeal following the 1-0 victory. FIFA confirmed on Wednesday that the yellow card has been maintained.

France manager Didier Deschamps confirmed the decision prior to the team's quarter-final match. Olise, who has contributed five assists in the 2026 World Cup, now risks a suspension from a potential semi-final should he receive another yellow card in the upcoming game against Morocco. France is scheduled to face Morocco in their quarter-final fixture.

This decision contrasts with FIFA's earlier suspension of a red card for United States striker Folarin Balogun, which allowed him to play in his team's last-16 match against Belgium.

France's match against Paraguay was marked by several incidents. Bradley Barcola and Manu Kone also received yellow cards for France. Reports indicated instances of rough play from Paraguay, including an attempt to scuff the penalty spot before Kylian Mbappe scored from a penalty, an elbow to the ribs of defender Dayot Upamecano, and a tackle on midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

In separate news, Morocco will be without Ismael Saibari for their quarter-final match.

Following the match, Kylian Mbappe publicly condemned racist remarks made by a Paraguayan senator directed at him.
