Bruno Fernandes delivered a passionate, expletive-laden interview following Manchester United's dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Roma on Tuesday night. The midfielder addressed speculation surrounding his form and his relationship with manager Michael Carrick.
Fernandes, who had been dropped for United's recent 3-0 loss to Bournemouth, returned to the starting lineup against Chelsea and Roma, earning Man of the Match and scoring against the Italian side. In his post-match comments, he expressed frustration with media reports.
"There has been a lot of speculation in the media. A lot of lies around many things that have happened at this club, between me and the manager, like that we have cleared the air. Nothing like that happened," Fernandes stated. He accepted Carrick's decision to bench him, calling it "fair" and admitting it was potentially a consequence of his performances.
"The manager took a decision of making myself on the bench because I wasn't performing. And that's fair," Fernandes said. "Everyone felt like that was a punishment for the words that I had [after Como]. And if it was, it was right."
The captain affirmed his belief in the manager and the team, despite the club's difficult period. "The manager makes the decisions. I have to accept it. I have to go forward with that. It doesn't change the belief I have in the manager, the staff and every player at this club," he added. "And it doesn't change my aim to win every f***ing game that I have ahead of me."
Amazon Prime presenter Gabby Logan issued an apology for Fernandes' strong language during the broadcast.
