A fan was arrested and indefinitely banned from all league-affiliated games after throwing a green dildo onto the court during the third quarter of a WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday night. The perpetrator was wearing a Los Angeles Lakers jersey with the name "Doncic" on it.
Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese identified the fan, who attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by arena security. The individual, whose name has not been publicly released, now faces a lifetime ban from WNBA, NBA, and other league events.
This is not the first time an object of this nature has been thrown onto a WNBA court. A similar incident occurred last July during a game between the Dream and the Golden State Valkyries. That event was followed by other similar attempts at WNBA games in the following days. At the time, a group of cryptocurrency traders who launched a meme coin called Green Dildo Coin (DILDO) claimed responsibility for the earlier incident and suggested further promotional pranks were planned.
The group has not yet claimed responsibility for the latest incident. Officials hope that this latest event will not lead to a resurgence of similar disruptions.
