Falkirk Ends Hearts' Winning Streak with 2-1 Victory
Loan star Owen Eames scores the decisive goal as Falkirk claims their first league win of the season.
Falkirk secured a significant 2-1 victory over Hearts, halting Wouter Vrancken's side's six-match domestic winning streak and preventing them from climbing to second in the Premiership table. The result marked Falkirk's first league win of the campaign, with Derby County loanee Owen Eames proving to be the standout player.
Hearts were unable to capitalize on an opportunity to move above Rangers in the standings. Despite James Wilson equalizing Ben Krahaus's opener in the first half, Falkirk appeared the more likely team to secure all three points throughout the match.
Falkirk took an early lead in the eighth minute. Captain Brad Spencer's pass from deep found right-back Ryan Strain, who delivered a composed ball to Ben Krahaus. The Brentford loanee struck the ball from 14 yards out, beating Hearts goalkeeper Beau Reus.
Hearts found an equalizer in the 22nd minute. Following sustained possession, Harry Milne fed Josh McPake on the left flank. McPake drove into the penalty area and provided a low ball across the six-yard box, which Wilson converted for his fifth goal of the season. Wilson had a chance to score again just a minute later but sent his shot over the bar.
Falkirk regained the lead midway through the second half when Eames capitalized on a defensive lapse from Hearts. Eames drove down the left and scored with a low shot that deflected in off the inside of Reus's right-hand post.
Hearts made a halftime substitution, bringing on JJ Williams for Wilson, but continued to face defensive pressure. Three minutes after the restart, Finlay Barbrook's effort from the edge of the area was saved by Reus's feet. Williams then missed a close-range opportunity from Yan Dhanda's cross, firing his shot directly at Falkirk goalkeeper Scott Bain.
In the closing stages, Falkirk had further chances to extend their lead, with CJ Fodrey missing an open goal and Ethan Ross hitting the post in the 90th minute, but the late opportunities did not diminish the significance of the victory for the home side.
The match was officiated by John Beaton, whose involvement in a controversial penalty decision in a previous Hearts match had drawn ire from their supporters.
