The Atlanta Falcons have made running back Bijan Robinson the highest-paid player at his position in NFL history with a three-year contract extension. The deal is worth up to $75 million, including $51 million guaranteed and a $37 million signing bonus, according to ESPN.
This move is part of a significant offseason spending spree by the Falcons, who have also extended wide receiver Drake London, tight end Kyle Pitts, and offensive guard Matthew Bergeron. The team, reigning NFC South champions, recently entered a new era under its first-year head coach, who is overseeing a quarterback competition between Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr.
Robinson, 24, had a standout performance in the 2025 season, rushing for 1,478 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 5.2 yards per carry. He also contributed significantly in the passing game, accumulating 820 yards and four touchdowns on 79 receptions.
Prior to Robinson's new deal, Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles held the title of the NFL's top-paid running back with an average annual salary of approximately $20 million. However, Robinson's contract and potentially that of Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who is also in line for an extension, could reshape the market for running backs.
Lions head coach indicated that Robinson's deal would likely have a positive impact on negotiations for Gibbs's contract. Gibbs has also participated in training camp with a "hold-in" as he and his representatives work towards a long-term agreement.
The Falcons secured a playoff spot with an 8-9 record last season, despite ranking 24th in points scored. Robinson's contract ensures his full participation in training camp, preparing him for the upcoming season regardless of the starting quarterback situation.
