Steve Keim, the former general manager of the Arizona Cardinals, has publicly denied accusations made by former wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins that Keim contaminated or manipulated a drug test. Hopkins had claimed in a now-deleted social media post that Keim "set up" his 2022 suspension, costing him $13 million.

In a statement released Tuesday, Keim stated, "DeAndre Hopkins recently published and then deleted a statement falsely suggesting that I was responsible for contaminating or manipulating the drug test associated with his 2022 NFL suspension. That accusation is completely false."

Keim elaborated that he "did not contaminate, alter, manipulate, interfere with, or cause anyone else to interfere with DeAndre's drug test or its results." He added that he did not "set him up" for a suspension and had no involvement in the test outcome.

Deeming the allegation "extraordinarily serious," Keim asserted that it attacked his integrity and professional reputation. He noted that the subsequent deletion of Hopkins' statement did not negate the damage caused by its initial publication.

"I have retained counsel, Raees Mohamed, Esq., to aggressively address this matter and to protect my reputation and legal rights," Keim's statement continued. "The relevant evidence is being reviewed and preserved, and this matter will be handled through the appropriate channels."

Keim stated he would not engage in a "public back-and-forth" but would "not remain silent."

Hopkins was suspended for six games in the 2022 season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drugs policy. At the time, the Cardinals finished the season with a 4-13 record after quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a torn ACL. Keim departed his general manager role after ten years with the team in the ensuing offseason.

Hopkins last played in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens during the 2025 season and is now an assistant wide receivers coach at Georgia Tech. He has not officially announced his retirement from playing.
